Introducing a new line of products at TheJapanShop.com. We will be producing a number of audio only products that are designed to be useful without the need of any written material. We will, however, include a PDF of the transcript and more detailed grammatical explanations.

Both of these products have been around for a while, but I’m excited to announce we are now including MP3s that can be burned to a CD or added to a playlist. These specially prepared audio files (weeks worth of dedicated work!) were designed so the listener wouldn’t need to be viewing a PDF or Kindle ebook to learn. This is especially good for commuters, joggers, or just something to listen to as you go to bed at night.

We have two new apps coming for Android hopefully within a week.

One is actually an update of our Japanese Phrases app for Android, but it is totally redone and much, much bigger.

This was one of our most ambitious projects in recent years. But I haven’t done much with it since we launched it for iPhone over a year ago. I’m pleased to announce that not only will we be coming out with an Android version very soon, but we should also have a major update for the iPhone / iPad. More on this later…

New Review for Hiragana & Katakana FREE iPhone / iPad App!

Our ad-supported (isn’t too intrusive, really!) Hiragana and Katakana app for the iPhone and iPad is absolutely free. Here is a new testimony that just came in today.

Amazing app for Japanese students! – I found this app to be absolutely perfect for keeping my daily practice routines up for when I’m on the go. It has even taught me a few things, and I’m sure it helps the absolute beginners learn too. My only recommendation is for in the reviews of the chapter lessons. It shows a random character in that chapter (5 per chapter) and puts randomized buttons for multiple choice guessing. It is very helpful, however I would like to see the buttons made a bit larger and spread out because sometimes I mis-tap the wrong answer because they are so small. Another recommendation would also be perhaps having the appMake the sound of the correct kana when you pick the correct romaji to it on the multiple choice. It would be nice for those still learning and like to say the kana as they come. All in all, nice app, and I will definitely recommend this to my friends that are currently learning Japanese. And the best part is that it’s free!

Learn Japanese through Dialogues At the Restaurant Kindle eBook

Brand New! Learn Japanese through Dialogues: at the Restaurant ebook.

We produced an iPhone app last year on Japanese Dialogues. It was a HUGE undertaking, but as a result, I have tons of data to work with. I’m slowly organizing the hundreds of sound files and XML spreadsheets so that the information can be repackaged for ebooks and as audiobooks.

We finished the ebook of the “At the Restaurant” topic a few weeks ago and it is finally up on Amazon. The audiobook is far more challenging (imagine converting an ebook explaining Japanese conversation, grammar, and vocabulary into an audio-only format). But I hope to have that finished next week.

While we are using the same basic information across platforms, each product has been created with that platform in mind.

CJ Martin’s Two Tocks Before Midnight Audiobook Coming

We (really meaning, I–Clay) are thrilled to announce the coming audiobook version of CJ Martin’s Two Tocks before Midnight novella. It is a Sherlock Holmes-esque story that takes the reader back to 19th century Boston.

There is a murder. All members of the Agora Society is at risk; all members are suspect. Only one man, Carl Brooke, has the knowledge and expertise to stop the murderer…

Wayne Farrell will do the narration. He has a marvelous voice and is just perfect for the story. I can’t wait to post excerpts!
