Two Tocks Before Midnight Audiobook Review

Two Tocks before Midnight Audiobook Review

Narrator Reviews has just reviewed CJ Martin’s novella, Two Tocks Before Midnight here. Wayne Farrell did a fantastic job with the sound as the review says.

I only have only good things to say about this narrator. Farrrell’s voice is rich, deep, and clear. He gives an excellent presentation of the text parts, as well as in expressing the characters. Farrell, has a good handle on proper emphasis, so each character is easily distinguished.

(re)New Product: Japanese Reader Collection Volume 4: The Mouse Bride Download

Japanese Reader Collection Volume 4: The Mouse Bride

Built for Beginners of Japanese

We just finished revamping this reader. I listened to the MP3s for this last week and cringed… There was hiss; there were odd popping noises–it was just horrible. No wonder it was the second least popular download in our catalog!

This download, designed for beginners and upper beginners of Japanese, now has two new recordings: one at slow speed for beginners to easily follow along and one at normal speed. The PDF has been thoroughly edited and I’ve added Kindle and Nook (epub) formats to expand your options for how to use the product.

Works with PCs, Macs, Kindles, Nooks, and any device that can read PDFs, ePub, or MP3s.

  • An E-Book in Flash for interactive reading and listening
  • A 33 Page PDF (for printing) with every vocabulary defined after each line, the story in hiragana only (with spaces), the story in “real” Japanese, and the story translated into English
  • A slow MP3 recording of the story (newly rerecorded)
  • A normal speed MP3 recording (newly rerecorded)
  • Kindle and Nook ebook formats included
  • Works with PCs or Macs (the only difference is PC users use the .exe file for the Flash E-Book and Mac users use the flash embedded HTML file)
  • And as a special Flash bonus, “40 Common Japanese Family Names”–click on any name to hear it read.

* NOTE: If you bought this product before, please email me for a free update. (If you can find your order email, that would be great, but I should be able to look it up if you don’t have it handy)

Oh, and I’ve reduced the price too! It was $5.99. Now it is $3.99!

Learn Japanese through Dialogues At the Restaurant Kindle eBook

Brand New! Learn Japanese through Dialogues: at the Restaurant ebook.

We produced an iPhone app last year on Japanese Dialogues. It was a HUGE undertaking, but as a result, I have tons of data to work with. I’m slowly organizing the hundreds of sound files and XML spreadsheets so that the information can be repackaged for ebooks and as audiobooks.

We finished the ebook of the “At the Restaurant” topic a few weeks ago and it is finally up on Amazon. The audiobook is far more challenging (imagine converting an ebook explaining Japanese conversation, grammar, and vocabulary into an audio-only format). But I hope to have that finished next week.

While we are using the same basic information across platforms, each product has been created with that platform in mind.

All formats include audio files (the ebooks have a link to the download on the last page)

iPhone: Japanese Dialogues (FREE download, then buy the At the Restaurant as an in-app purchase)

Amazon Kindle: Learn Japanese through Dialogues: at the Restaurant $4.99

B&N Nook: Learn Japanese through Dialogues: at the Restaurant $4.99

TheJapanShop.com: Learn Japanese through Dialogues: at the Restaurant $4.99

CJ Martin’s Two Tocks Before Midnight Audiobook Coming

We (really meaning, I–Clay) are thrilled to announce the coming audiobook version of CJ Martin’s Two Tocks before Midnight novella. It is a Sherlock Holmes-esque story that takes the reader back to 19th century Boston.

There is a murder. All members of the Agora Society is at risk; all members are suspect. Only one man, Carl Brooke, has the knowledge and expertise to stop the murderer…

Wayne Farrell will do the narration. He has a marvelous voice and is just perfect for the story. I can’t wait to post excerpts!

Here is the coming audiobook cover:

If you haven’t read it, I don’t think you will be disappointed–check it out on Amazon here or for your Nook here.

New Review for our 100 Japanese Grammar Points Kindle eBook

Well, I was just thrilled to read a brand new review for our Kindle ebook, 100 Japanese Grammar Points.

We’d had two other reviews. One was four star that was generally positive and one was a three star that didn’t like how I used screen shots to capture the Japanese. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t currently allow Japanese characters even though most Kindles out there support it. So, I have to use images. I do need to fix the ones with the spell check squiggly lines, though…

Here is the wonderful review–Thank you Solano-san!

This review is from: 100 Japanese Grammar Points in Plain English (Kindle Edition)

I do not care tha much for e-books, what they make up in ostensible convenience, they usually lack in quality, so I do appreciate some of the comments regarding screenshots… and I agree; I’ve had my share of disappointments.

Having said that, this particular book is an invaluable wealth of very useful, pragmatic information. I am learning Japanese on my own, so finding material that is comprehensive, and making sense of it without the help of an instructor is difficult.

In my assessment if you learn basic vocanulary and apply the concepts presented in this book, you will gain a significant grasp of the fundamentals; this book has gone a long way in helping me bridge the gap of understanding from pieces of information collected from other sources.

If you’re someone who enjoys learning on your own, you will get a lot out of this book… and the price makes it a great deal, I would not be shy about buying other japanese learning material from this author

New Cover Design for E.C. Smith’s BITTER DAWN Fantasy Novel

Actually, it has a new title as well! No longer will the first book of The Harbinger of Light series be called “Covenant.” (And no longer will the series not have its own title!)

If you scroll down a few posts, you’ll see the “old” image with “Covenant” as the title. I really liked how it turned out, but several of the images were not large enough for print. The above image is the front, spine, and back cover of the 9×12″ paperback.

I think I like it better and with Mr. Smith’s permission, we’ll use it for both ebook and printed covers.

It is off to the printers with 598 inside pages sandwiched between the covers for a test run. Once that is given a good reading by the early beta readers, it should be ready. I’m hoping by the end of the month to have at least the ebook version selling on Amazon, BN.com, and TheJapanShop.com.

Any thoughts or comments would be most appreciated.

The Temporal–an eBook coming soon by CJ Martin

CJ Martin is busily working on the sequel to the Tanaka and the Yakuza’s Daughter 6,000 word short story. That 80k word novel is in the final editing stages, but he is also about to complete a “Supernatural Thriller” called “The Temporal.” (about 55k words)

Eternity: Existence outside time — God’s point of view…

After his wife leaves him for a former friend, Sam Williams moves to Japan to start his life over. But a quiet new life was not to be.

A devastating earthquake in central Japan sends eternity crashing into time, enabling Sam to hear echoes of the past and even the future. Through the echoes, Sam and a mysterious Japanese woman learn of a terrorist plot that could plunge the world into turmoil and position a murderer as the leader of the free world.

They alone have the knowledge and ability to stop the plot.

But even with eternity on their side, will they stop it in time?

If you would like to read Tanaka and the Yakuza’s Daughter for free or would like to be a Beta Reader for the Temporal or the Tanaka novel (tentatively called Tanaka: Sons of Redemption), please let me (Clay) know. [email: clay AT thejapanshop dot com]

Kotoba Books to Publish E.C. Smith’s Covenant Series

I’m happy to announce Kotoba Books will be soon publishing Mr. Smith’s Covenant, a 150,000 word fantasy novel.

A book description in progress (very much subject to change!):

Elves, Dwarves, and humans face threats from surrogates sent by the evil Desolate–the dark elves.  It is the early years of recovery following a devastating war between the Desolate and their cousins, the Firstborn. No race has been left unscathed and trust runs thin.

The humans, aided by the Firstborn, have experienced a period of unparalleled prosperity. And now they are preparing to herald the first human king.

But not all clans are happy with the coming changes…

Political intrigue between the human houses threatens the first civil war in human history. Prophesy links the races, and a secret–hidden amongst the humans–is about to be revealed.

If you are interested in fantasy (in English) and would like to read an “uncorrected manuscript” as the New York publishers say, please contact me to be on a beta reader’s list. Extra eyes prior to publication is always good!
